JEFFREY R. MACDONALD | : |
1. I am a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (hereafter FBI) assigned to the Boston Field office of the FBI and on November 17, 1981, Allen P. Mazerolle voluntarily appeared at the Portland, Maine Resident Agency of the FBI. Mazerolle, as previously agreed, furnished a signed statement as follows:
"I, Allen Patrick Mazerolle, furnish the following voluntary statement to Special Agent Charles J. Walsh who has identified himself to me as a Special Agent of the FBI. I have been advised by Special Agent Walsh that I am being questioned about circumstances surrounding the death of Colette S. MacDonald and her two daughters at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on February 16-17, 1970.2. In addition, Mazerolle furnished inked finger and palm prints.
"I was born on October 24, 1949, at Fort Fairfield, Maine. I reside at P. O. Box 802, Mountain View Road, Gray, Maine. Telephone Number (207) 428-3219. My education consists of eleven years of school and a General Equivalency Diploma obtained at Fort Gordon, Georgia.
"On February 16-17, 1970 1 was incarcerated at the Fayetteville, N. C. jail having been confined there from the middle of January, 1970 to the beginning of March 1970 inasmuch as I was unable to raise bail. I was charged with possession and transporting LSD.
"I have no knowledge of, nor did I participate in, the murder of Colette S. MacDonald and her two daughters. I do not know nor have I ever known Jeffrey Robert MacDonald, Colette S. MacDonald and their two daughters whose names are unknown to me.
"Sometime in December 1969 I met Helena Stoeckley after which we became closer friends. During the course of our relationship we became involved in the use of drugs in the form of LSD, mescaline, speed and marijuana.
"Helena Stoeckley was more involved in taking drugs than I was. So much so that I constantly observed her under the influence of drugs.
"I do not recall having known Bruce Johnny Fowler, Shelby Don Harris, Gregory Howard Mitchell or Dwight Smith nor do I recall being in their company with Helena Stoeckley. Also, I never engaged in any activities with these individuals which could be construed as cult activities. I do not know the current location of Helena Stoeckley or the aforementioned individuals.
"During the month of February 1970 I was incarcerated at the Fayetteville jail, however, prior to my incarceration I resided at an apartment complex, which name I cannot recall, on Bragg Boulevard near the Dunkin Donut approximately two miles from Fort Bragg. I resided there with Ralph Savarese who was from New Jersey and an unknown individual whose name I cannot recall. He is a white male; stocky build; about five feet, nine inches tall; red hair and a lot of freckles. We were all assigned to the U. S. Army at Fort Bragg, N. C.
"During February 1970 I owned a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette, red, convertible which I purchased in November, 1969 at Portland, Maine. I do not recall ever having known a Cathy Smith or Diane Hedden Cazares.
"Helena Stoeckley, in my opinion, was a very unstable individual who became uncontrollable for no apparent reason.
"With the exception of Special Agent Walsh I have not been contacted by any other individual regarding this matter and if called upon I am willing to testify in this matter regarding my knowledge of this event.
"I have read the above statement consisting of this and six additional handwritten pages. I have initialed each page and now sign it because it is true.
/s/ "Allen P. Mazerolle
