Affidavit of Francis Cristina (FBI) re: Shelby Don Harris

UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT
FOR THE
EASTERN DISTRICT OF NORTH CAROLINA
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA :
v. : NO. 75-26-Cr-3
: Civil No. 84-41 CIV-3
JEFFREY R. MACDONALD :
I, Francis M. Cristina, being duly sworn do depose and say that:

1. I am a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of investigation (hereafter FBI), and in January, 1982, I was assigned to the Nashville, Tennessee Field Office of the FBI.

2. On January 4, 1982, I interviewed Shelby Don Harris who advised that he is currently employed as a carpenter for the St. Thomas Hospital at Nashville. Harris advised that he was in the U. S. Army assigned to Special Forces in Vietnam and at Ft. Bragg during the approximate time of the murders involving Dr. Jeffrey MacDonald. He said to the best of his knowledge he has never seen nor does he know Dr. Jeffrey Robert MacDonald and only knows about the murder of the doctor's wife and children through news media during that period of time.

3. Harris advised that he knows casually Helena Stoeckley who he met at Fayetteville, North Carolina, while he was assigned at Ft. Bragg. He recalls he met her through some mutual girlfriends at a pizza parlor one evening. He said she was a strange individual who claimed she was a witch and believes she was doing this to gain attention. He said that he casually associated with Stoeckley through mutual friends from about January to May, 1970, and on several occasions smoked marijuana with her and her associates. He recalled she always was trying to get attention, never worked, and was a leech on everyone she came in contact with. He noted she was also a heavy drug user and would take all types of drugs, including heroin. Harris stated that he primarily used marijuana during that period of time and never took any type of mind altering drugs. He also recalled that Stoeckley's boyfriend at that time was a man by the name of Mitch, real name not known.

4. Harris said too the best of his knowledge he has never heard of Bruce Johnny Fowler, Allen Mazerolle, Dwight Smith, or Gregory Howard Mitchell. He said the Mitchell person may be Stoeckley's boyfriend but does not know this for certain. He also noted that during this period of time Stoeckley's boyfriend Mitch was considered to be "strung out" on drugs. He also stated that he thinks that Stoeckley is really not a witch but claims to be one just to draw attention to herself. He reiterated that he knows nothing about the murders nor did he ever know any of the above named individuals who Stoeckley alleges participated in the murders
Harris stated that he would be more than willing to take a polygraph exam regarding the above information.

Further your affiant sayeth not.
