Paragraph 58:  Comparison of wax removed from Exhibits D123, G131 and G201 with the candle wax from Exhibits G(1-10) showed same to be different in chemical composition.

Paragraph 59:  It is the opinion of the examiner that the wax present in Exhibits D123, G131 and G201 did not originate from the candles G(1-10).

Related exhibits

G11 thru G17 Candles of assorted colors

Webmaster note

Because the defense claims that Helena Stoeckley carried a candle while she was present in the MacDonald apartment on the night of February 17, 1970, the notes for this exhibit include a great number of references to candles and wax in general, as well as specific references to Exhibits G(1-10).

It should also be noted that Exhibits G11 through G17 are described as "candles of assorted colors." (According to the CID, these candles were purple, yellow, green, white and pink.) Some notes below may include references to G11 through G17. No findings were reported for those exhibits.

According to U.S. Attorney Thomas McNamara, the MacDonald residence contained seventeen candles. Dillard Browning testified to comparing 14 different waxes, candles, or other similar paraffin materials, known to come from the MacDonald house, with the three unidentified waxes found in the MacDonald house. He referred to first receiving six candles, then later receiving two candles in wine bottles, for a total of eight candles at that time. He later received six more candles. Since the eight candles of Exhibit G(1-8) are not candles in wine bottles (but G9 and G10 are), and since Exhibits G11 through G17 would presumably include seven candles, it is difficult to determine exactly which exhibits made up the total of 14 candles he received.
